The Christchurch Earthquake on February 22nd hit the city with a magnitude of 6,3. The whole CBD is destroyed and with the epicenter being close to the city center and very shallow the destruction has been massive. Peter Jagla covered the earthquake and the days after the event for the Mediengruppe RTL as Reporter and camera operator. He delivered raw material and pieces to camera. Hard Day’s Night is a documentary on homelessness in Sydney which with Peter won the Wanda Jamrozik Prize for the best Honors/Postgraduate Project in 2010. Peter accompanied two homeless men for over 18 hours from dusk till dawn to portrait their life. In this documentary Peter wanted to show how life on the street really is, what those people think, why they live on the street and if they want to improve their situation. Hard Day’s Night is part of Peter’s Final Project to gain the Master of Arts in Journalism. He did this project all by himself from finding the topic to editing the material.

The numbers of attacks on ambulance officers in New South Wales, Australia, rose to a high in recent months. Officers do not feel safe in their job and say they are not protected enough. New South Wales Ambulance Service instead says that everything is done to make sure ambulance officers are not hurt at work. This news story has been produced as part of a television class at University of Technology Sydney under the supervision of Philippa McDonald from the ABC. Peter did most of the camera work, the editing and spoke the voice over.

In 2009 bush fires in the Australian south hit off earlier than usually. Big fires raged in parts of New South Wales and Victoria as early as November when the bush fire season officially just started. Peter Jagla reported on the national news station n-tv about what has been done to prevent bush fires and help people who live in bush fire areas to prevent their lives.

What if no one wants to shop even though there are so many shops? The little suburb Derendorf in Duesseldorf, Germany, has a huge Kaufland-Shopping Mall but customers seem to be out of reach. Small retailers now complain that the big grocery store Kaufland who they pay rent to does not do enough to attract customers. One retailer even says that mistakes have been made from the day the centre has been opened. Peter Jagla did this current affairs story for Center.tv in Duesseldorf. He came up with the idea for that story, filmed, edited and texted the story. The voice over has been spoken by him, too.

A catastrophic fire destroys parts of an old church in Duesseldorf, Germany. One months later the tower clock still stands still. It will take months if not even years until the church can be reopened again. Center.tv Duesseldorf reminded of this tragic fire after one months.
